Galaxy Quest (1999)
More than a quarter-century later, this Star Trek spoof remains a gold standard for sci-fi satire. With the announcement of a new Star Wars spoof, maybe it's time to remember what's possible

Last week, Mel Brooks popped up on YouTube announcing that we’re going to get a sequel to 1987’s Spaceballs, a movie that became a slumber-party favorite for me and my friends in high school, even if I found it to fall far short of my hopes for a Star Wars spoof. I’m keeping my expectations for Spaceballs 2 very much in check.
By contrast, Galaxy Quest, the best spoof of Star Trek we’ve seen on the big screen, remains a gold standard for such endeavors.
