Overstreet’s Concert Calendar: Robert Deeble, Jeffrey Martin, Anna Tivel, Over the Rhine, The Mountain Goats, Wednesday

Want to join me and Anne for a night of inspiration, enchantment, and soul-searching live music?

We'll be at this show, where our longtime friend and local alt-rock legend Robert Deeble will cast his singular spell of poetic lyricism, atmospheric soundscapes, and controlled feedback (which he has turned into quite an art of improvisation and inspiration).

I was a big fan of Deeble’s Heart Like Feathers and Beloved, and now I’m finding autumn to be just the right season to sink into the mesmerizing moods of his new album, The Space Between Us.

And I have more concerts on the horizon that I hope some of you will be lucky enough to show up for:

Jeffrey Martin and Anna Tivel play at Millers in Carnation on Friday, November 14. Martin and Tivel are two of my favorite discoveries of recent years — we’ve seen both of them here in Seattle, and also at Over the Rhine's Nowhere Else Festival in Ohio. Anne and I had the privilege of starting to get to know Martin himself in September, a conversation that will stick with me for a long time. If you can’t catch them at Millers, check the calendar for Seattle's Tractor Tavern. (We’ve seen them there before, and we’ll never forget it.)

It’ll be a dream come true to visit Millers for the first time, as it’s a venue owned and managed by Bill Pritchard, who ran Madison’s Cafe in West Seattle, the place we first heard Over the Rhine, Sixpence None the Richer, The Call, and other outstanding artists in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Over the Rhine makes their annual visit to Seattle’s Triple Door on November 21–22, and we never miss that show. Sure, we just flew all the way to Ohio to see them play three days of live music on their farmhouse property in Martinsville, and that was a tremendous feast — but we’re already hungry for more. We’ve come to think of that Triple Door show as our official Thanksgiving Dinner.

The Mountain Goats, promoting their new album Through This Fire Across from Peter Balkan, will be at the Neptune on December 3 — and so will I.

On February 13, 2026, actor Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy bring their incredible R.E.M. cover band back to the Neptune to play the great Athens band’s early masterpiece Life's Rich Pageant from beginning to end. I saw them play Fables of the Reconstruction last year, and it wasn’t just a cover band — it was a reverent celebration, a theatrical seance of sorts (summoning the spirits of musicians who are still very much still alive), a demonstration of stunning hard-rock musicianship, a singalong for fans, a discovery for kids whose parents brought them along, and so much more than just the promised record recreation. And then R.E.M.’s Peter Buck jumped up onstage and rocked with them for several songs. I can’t wait to go back for more.

Finally, the band Wednesday, whose album Rat Saw God was my favorite rock record of 2023, and whose new release Bleeds is a strong contender for my favorite of 2025, comes to the Moore Theater on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Here’s a video I made myself from the last time I saw it.

Those are the shows I’m planning to see in the coming months, and I’ll keep you posted as I add more the calendar. At events like these, it’s the more (and, sometimes, The Moore) . . . the merrier!
